I'm a principal engineer and technical consultant based in Hastings, New Zealand. I build and maintain complex web systems, and help teams solve difficult technical problems.

- /AI_and_security I help teams evaluate AI use cases, secure existing applications, and turn recommendations into working changes.
Experience
- I run Tactful, my New Zealand software consultancy, which I've operated since 2005.
- I've delivered software as a senior architect at Lincoln Loop for 17 years, working on platforms for National Geographic, PBS, Smithsonian Magazine, UNICEF, and Mozilla.
- I was the key architect and developer behind Wharton Interactive's Alternate Reality Courseware: a scalable, scriptable, real-time gaming platform for collaborative learning simulations used by students and executives around the world.
- My other long-term product work includes the Summit ESP suite for Halliburton, covering well performance, equipment reliability, critical manufacturing, shared identity, and SAP and ERP integrations. I have also worked on insurance policy and claims systems for a US insurer. I have maintained an investments platform for Poutama Trust since 2009.
- I created Rental Cart, a New Zealand SaaS product connecting rent tracking, bank reconciliation, tax visibility, leases, inspections, maintenance, and property records.
- I'm an established open-source creator and maintainer, and I care about stewardship well beyond the first release.
